Hasse composed his azione teatrale as a serenata for the birthday of August III, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, in October 1758. The work consists of two parts, but the second part
has not been found. The first part was performed in Zschopau for the first time since 1758.
Bach wrote his cantata BWV 213 for the birthday of Friedrich Christian, third and eldest surviving son of August III, in September 1733.
